The 2010 Boise Dream Home is being built as a net zero home; simply stated, the home will produce as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year. Unlike off-grid, the site will be connected to the grid, both to draw power and share surplus generation using Idaho Power’s Net Metering program. To achieve this pinnacle level of green building every component within the home is specified to reduce the overall energy required to operate the home. As the building process takes shape, we’ll post the individual components that will add-up to a tight building envelope equipped complete with energy efficient products to ensure the home will use as little energy as possible.
To obtain the net zero mark, the home must also produce its own electricity. Energytech, a local Boise area Home Performance Specialist and Green Building Verification company, and the Department of Energy’s Building America have been developing modeling data to determine the most appropriate renewable energy options for the Dream Home as well as consulting on the individual components of the home. Solar has been identified as the most obtainable and cost-effective source of renewable energy for the Boise Dream Home.
Idaho Renewable Energy Association has donated a complete Photovoltaic system for the home! This is an amazing contribution for a home that is being constructed with the goal of 100% donations for labor and product.
Idaho Solar Design & Consulting, Inc., a locally owned and operated Solar distributer, installer and consultancy firm, has donated all of the labor associated with the installation.
Thank you, Idaho Renewable Energy Association and Idaho Solar Design & Consulting for this remarkable donation!
